President Donald Trump accused some Republicans of doing “very little to protect” him in a tweet on Sunday. Celebrities are now reacting to the president slamming members of his own party. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.
Prior to criticizing his party on Sunday, Trump had written, “As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues, two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!” He then tweeted, “It’s very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President.” Trump was seemingly referring to the Republican members of Congress participating in investigations of his campaign’s ties to Russia during the election. The president may have also been addressing those Republicans in the Senate who rejected legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare last week.
One celebrity weighing in on the president’s pointed comments is Andy Cohen, who tweeted, “Housewives Playbook: attack your squad when they don’t have your back! (See: Sonja v Tinsley).” Rosie O’Donnell said, “on ur back ? dear god don – the russians bought their train ticket – u r confused – prostitutes peed on ur back in moscow.” John Cusack asked, “When will republicans close down this deadly farce – this corrupt shameless horror show?” And Ricky Gervais stated, “It’s really getting good now.”
Meanwhile, Alyssa Milano offered, “True or false, @realDonaldTrump – You’re ‘very sad’ because someone just informed you that you can’t fire them. #PatriotNotPartisan.” Jemaine Clement rebutted, “What’s sadder is that you’re probably playing golf today and not hanging out with your son. You’re 71.” And Martha Plimpton suggested, “Don’t take it personally. Toughen up, honey. They’re making $ off you & ur making $ off us. Isn’t that what you wanted? Don’t you like it?” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Trump slamming Republicans who don’t “protect their President.”
