As the latest news on the upcoming release of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie goes, Dana Brunetti, the producer of the movie, has a very talkative girlfriend.
That girlfriend is Kristin Chenoweth, the noted Broadway star. She recently revealed some interesting spoilers on the movie, as well as on the cast, sharing gossip about Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Fans of the books, anxiously awaiting the film’s release on Valentine’s Day in 2015, ate up the news gratefully, glad to hear anything about the upcoming movie’s secrets.
The Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, now about 45 years old, gave an interview to E!’s reporter Kristin dos Santos, concerning some details of the upcoming movie, for which her boyfriend is the producer. She told the reporter explicitly that she has spent a considerable amount of time with her boyfriend up in Vancouver. This is currently the location where the movie is being shot, so she got plenty of inside info not available to those regular people among us who don’t get to date the producer of the movie.
She also said that she has become friends with the writer of the series, new novelist E.L. James, E! News reported.
“I think it’s going to be done very, very tasteful,” she told dos Santos, regarding the admittedly graphic erotic novel. This amid concerns that a movie made from the book that was faithful to the original telling would amount to “pornography,” a fact that Chenoweth addressed, even telling a story about how her mother point-blank asked her boyfriend, Dana Brunetti, whether he was making porn up there in Vancouver.
Chenoweth also deigned to share that she is a big fan of the Fifty Shades of Grey books, and has made friends with the cast, and that she approves the casting choices, as well. Jamie Dornan, who you may have seen on The Fall, has been cast as Christian Grey, the troubled billionaire who is the show’s male lead. Dakota Johnson is cast as the literature student Anastasia Steele.
“They’re really, really salacious and wonderful. It’s an easy read and fun. I think that Dakota and Jamie, I met them both—I didn’t see their work because it’s a closed set, but I do see how they both got the parts—could not have been lovelier. That always helps. ‘You’re talented and your nice?’ Fantastic!” she said to the E! News reporter.
Brunetti has reported to Access Hollywood during the Oscars for this year that the film will almost certainly be rated R. “It’s sexy and hot,” Brunetti said. And based on an erotic love story, it probably should be.
Reporters, of course, wanted to know just how sexy—specifically, how much skin would show up in the movie. Brunetti, in masterful form, replied that he had no comment on that particular matter.
Fifty Shades of Grey premieres on February 13, 2015.
The movie is based on the E.L. James book by the same name. The book details the relationship between Anastasia Steele, an innocent young girl who is a literature student, and Christian Grey, the tormented, moody billionaire who also happens to be a BDSM aficionado, and introduces Anastasia to his strange sexual world. He only wants to have sex when it goes along with a very particular, very stylized kind of corporal punishment.
The novel has been alternately hailed and criticized, with regular readers raving about it—and buying it in such quantities that it has set records as the fastest-selling adult novel of all time—and critics trashing it as cheap garbage. Ever controversial, from its subject matter to its author’s unique style, the book definitely has the attention of the reading public in a big way.
Many critics complain that the book suffers from improbable dialogue, and quick-and-dirty characterizations that seem to exist only to support the book’s many, and very detailed, sex scenes.
This seems to be exactly what the rest of the world likes about it. The book sold 15 million copies in the U.S. and Canada within three months. This makes it the fastest selling adult novel in the history of book sales. One critic notes that this simply distinguishes it from Harry Potter, which did sell faster, but tends to lean towards a younger audience. You won’t find many kids reading Fifty Shades of Grey, at least not with their parents’ permission.
The novel’s appeal seems obvious, reading it. The main character is a 27-year-old self-made billionaire with expensive tastes and “absorbing hobbies,” as he tells Anastasia, the 22-year-old stunning virgin who it the novel’s protagonist. It’s pure fantasy from beginning to end.
The movie version, already huge news almost a year before its scheduled release, stars Jamie Dornan as the twenty something billionaire Christian Grey, Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, Luke Grimes as Eliot Grey, Rita Ora as Mia Grey, and Eloise Mumford as Katherine Kavanaugh.
